Hong Kong handover: Am I Chinese language or a Hongkonger?
On 1 July 1997, Britain returned Hong Kong to China. In a single day, Hongkongers received a brand new id as Chinese language electorate.
Since then, China has been willing to make sure the town’s citizens see themselves as Chinese language.
However emerging tensions between the town and the mainland lately have created a deep suspicion of China amongst some Hongkongers.
At the twenty fifth anniversary of handover, we ask two Hongkongers born in that ancient yr how they view their id – and what being Hongkonger and Chinese language way to them.
